Swans have long been associated with innovation, rebirth, and re-creation. From the legend of the ugly duckling to the classic ballet Swan Lake and even the castles of King Ludwig II of Bavaria (known as the Swan King), the swan is synonymous with beauty and aesthetic. All of this gives meaning to the mysterious creature on the cover of TOKYO’s most recent EP. It’s with this in mind that the American indie-pop band brings their most recent EP.
Robert Smith (a current touring member of MAE) started writing songs with brothers Felix and Josiah Schlater back in 2004. They added long-time friend Aaron Lachman and TOKYO was born. Within those next three years TOKYO carefully constructed, destroyed, and rebuilt each of their songs from scratch creating a unique atmospheric and driving rhythmic pop sound. Gaining a reputation as the area’s most energetic live band and having already produced a successful demo, TOKYO entered the studio with 5 of their finest songs. On March 14 2008 TOKYO released their debut five songs EP titled “Swan King” recorded and produced independently in their home state of Virginia. “Swan King” is currently sold on iTunes (U.S., Australia/N.Z., Canada, UK/European Union, Japan) and other stores like Rhapsody, Napster, Amazon MP3, and Lala. Recently TOKYO signed a deal with Heaven Records making “Swan King” will be heard in Indonesia.
